LAHORE, Nov 19: Jamaat-i-Islami amir Qazi Husain Ahmad has demanded that the Pakistan People’s Party government hold mid-term polls after abdicating power.

He has also threatened to obstruct supplies to NATO forces if the army operation in FATA areas is not stopped forthwith.

Speaking at a press conference here on Wednesday, he reiterated that no party could get a clear mandate in the February polls as the parties represented in parliament were conflicting with one another on every issue, bringing the working of the federal and provincial governments to a halt.

In this situation, he said, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani had been left with no other constitutional option but to advise the president to go for fresh polls. Gilani, he said, had himself admitted his failure by stating that the state of affairs was very bad and he (the prime minister) was ready to make way for the person who could handle it.

Alleging that the rulers and the establishment were part of the conspiracy to disintegrate the country, the Jamaat leader said conditions in FATA, Swat and the NWFP were being worsened while conspiracy was being hatched to cause mohajir-pakhtoon riots in Karachi. In the wake of economic crisis, he said, instead of transferring their wealth from foreign accounts to the homeland the rulers were pushing the nation to the IMF trap.— Staff Reporter
