KARACHI: High court bar slams PBC action
KARACHI, Nov 19: The Sindh High Court Bar Association on Wednesday condemned the suspension of the practising licence of Abdul Latif Afridi, president of the Peshawar High Court Bar Association, by the Pakistan Bar Council as “illegal and mala fide”.
A resolution adopted by a general body meeting said the action was taken without issuing a show-cause notice or otherwise affording Mr Afridi an opportunity of hearing.
“Any method of agitation to promote the lawyers’ movement for restoration of an independent judiciary and the rule of law is the right of every bar association and interference in it by the PBC is in access of the authority conferred on the council by the Legal Practitioners and Bar Councils Act,” the resolution said.—Staff Reporter
