Exports to be made zero-rated

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 19: The textile ministry is presently working on a proposal to make exports zero-rated, said Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, adviser to the ministry.

In a luncheon meeting with home textile industry, organised by the Towel Manufacturers’ Association (TMA) here on Wednesday, the adviser assured to resolve all issues confronting the export trade.

TMA chairman Syed Usman Ali drew the attention of the adviser towards discontinuation of Research and Development (R&D) support claims payment by State Bank of Pakistan.

The adviser said he would take up the matter with relevant authorities.

He suggested to exporters to do their lobbying with European Union (EU) embassies and consulates for getting market access particularly with reference to GSP Plus, which is being announced in January next year.

TMA chairman asked the adviser to declare all export-oriented units as Export Processing Units (EPUs) to get benefits equal to free trade zones.
