KARACHI: Shop owner killed in Usmania Colony

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 18: A 40-year-old man was shot dead on Tuesday in Nazimabad.

The Rizvia Society police said that the victim, Aleemudddin, a resident of Usmania Colony, was on his way when he was killed near his house.

They said that the attackers opened fire on the victim as he stopped his Honda 50cc motorcycle in front of his house.

The police said that the fatally wounded man was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital but he died before reaching the health facility.

Sources at the hospital’s medico-legal section said that the victim had received three bullets in his face, left arm and left ribcage from a very close range as the bullets went through his body.

The area SHO, Inspector Tariq Islam, told Dawn that the victim was the owner of a battery shop in Jahangirabd. “He was not affiliated with any political or religious group,” he said.

The police officer said that the victim was married for the past four years, but had no child.

He said that the man was not killed during a bungled robbery as the attackers did not relieve him of the Rs25,000 and the cellular phone he was carrying in his pocket. “The murder seems to be motivated by a personal enmity,” he added.

The SHO said that a case (FIR 257/08) was registered against unknown culprits under Sections 302 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the victim’s younger brother, Salim Uddin.

Young woman killed

A young woman was killed allegedly as a result of an illegal abortion.

The Gulshan-i-Iqbal police arrested two suspects, including the victim’s husband.

The police said that three men and a woman brought the body of a young woman, Samina, wife of Noor Mohammed, at Patel Hospital and later disappeared from there.

They said the hospital administration reported the matter to the police who tracked down the suspects from the registration number of their car, which was visible in the video recordings of the hospital’s CCTV camera.

The area SHO, Inspector Zubair Tanoli, told Dawn that the victim woman hailed from Okara and was brought to the city by the suspects some three months ago.

He said that the suspects, Rana Zafar and Noor Mohammed, were arrested in a flat at Jauhar Complex.

The SHO said that the suspect had taken the three-month pregnant woman to a midwife in Azizabad to have an abortion. “Efforts are being made to track down the midwife,” he added.

He said a case against the suspects was registered under Sections 302 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The SHO said that the body was later shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a postmortem examination.

He said that the postmortem report was reserved till the chemical examination report.

The SHO said that the relevant section of the illegal abortion would be invoked after the final postmortem report.

Suspect killed

A suspected bandit was killed in a shootout with police in Sachal police area.

The police said that a police patrol spotted a car near Marwara Goth and signalled the occupants to stop. Instead, they said, the occupants of the car opened fire on the police party who also returned fire.

The police said that one of the dacoits was killed in the shootout, while three others fled the scene under the cover of fire.

They said the fleeing dacoits also abandoned the car that had been snatched in New Karachi on Oct 13.

The suspect’s body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a postmortem examination.

Hospital sources said that the suspect, who appeared to be in mid 20s, had received three bullets from a close range. They said that the man appeared to be a Saraiki.

The police said that the killed suspect remained unidentified and the body was kept at the Edhi morgue for want of identification.

As many as 35 vehicles – six cars and 29 motorcycles – were either stolen or hijacked in different parts of the city.

Sources said that four cars were snatched at gunpoint within the limits of Gizri, Yousuf Plaza, Korangi and Shahrah-i-Noorjahan. They said two cars were stolen in the police precincts of Gulberg and Brigade.
