PTV suffer yet another defeat

ISLAMABAD, Nov 17: The Karachi Port Trust (KPT) inflicted yet another defeat on the PTV beating them 2-1 in the Pakistan Premier Football League match held at the Jinnah Stadium ground on Monday.

This was the PTV’s 18th defeat after losing to KPT.

The KPT struck in the 20th minute when Abdul Rehman made a superb pass from centre field to striker Shahid Saleem who slammed it into the goal.

The KPT dominated the entire match but the PTV somehow managed to put up a good defence preventing the KPT from a major win.

Rehman scored KPT’s second goal in the 60th minute.

The PTV were awarded a penalty kick in the 76th minute which skipper Zarrar Pirzada converted easily reducing the lead.

The PTV now have five points from 21 matches while KPT have tallied 41 points from 23 games

Meanwhile, in another fixture of the Pakistan Premier Football League Pakistan Navy trounced the KESC 3-0 at the Naval Complex.

The sailors scored the first goal in the 25th minute when Sajjad Ahmed slammed in a good hit.

An own goal by KESC’s defender Umar Farooq dismayed his team members in the 67th minute which enhanced Navy’s lead 2-0. Later, Navy’s Mohammad Basharat sealed the fate of the match with a goal in the 70th minute.

Navy have secured 33 points from 22 matches while the KESC have 26 points.

APP adds: Two second-half substitutes put up a fine display as PEL recorded a 2-1 win over the NBP at the Railways Stadium in Lahore.

The bankers got the opener in the 28th minute. Referee Rauf Bari penalised PEL’s Najam-ul-Sehar for handball infringement and NBP’s skipper Abdul Aziz converted the resultant penalty kick with the rising kick on the left corner past goalkeeper Ahmed Shahzad.

The NBP were leading 1-0 at the interval.

PEL reduced the lead in the 67th minute through skipper Muzaffar Ali.

Coach Asghar Anjum made tactical changes sending Rizwan Asif and Amer Hamza in place of Mohammad Rashid and Din Badshah in 65th and 83rd minutes respectively.

It worked for him as Rizwan curled the ball in from left wing in the 88th minute and Hamza caught the ball, thumping the ball into the right corner, leaving the goalkeeper stranded.

Tuesday’s fixtures:

Wapda v Pak Steel (Railway Stadium, Lahore, at 3pm); Punjab Medical College v HBL (PMC Ground, Faisalabad, at 3pm).
