KARACHI, Nov 16: Four-year-old bay filly Sugar Sweet, as predicted, lived up to her top billing when she stormed to one-and-a-half lengths victory over colt Mushki to complete a hat-trick in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

Her triumph in the opener was never in doubt considering her current form and fitness and she won as she pleased. Like the previous two outings, Sugar Sweet was smartly ridden home by jockey Mohammad Essa who too, made it three-in-a-row so does owner Pir Pagara and trainer Allah Judrio.

Filly Novaho’s Glory settled for third by finishing eight lengths behind while another filly Friendly Fire completed the board in a field of seven.

Predictions about the five-year-old bay The Conqueror and two-year-old bay filly Stratusfaction also came true when they obliged punters by returning with flying colours.

The Conqueror, who was beaten by a distance in the closely-fought last outing, made amends this time by registering three-and-a-quarter lengths victory over Closing Argument to claim the day’s feature event. Saddled by Mushtaq Ali Khan, he was piloted home by M. Nasir.

Afroze Jehan and Spice Of Arab followed the two in same order.

Backed by connection, Stratusfaction rose to the occasion when she landed The Sire Produce Stakes beating filly After Shock by seven lengths to post her maiden win under jockey Ghulam Shabbir II.

Her stable mate filly Lil Kimm finished third while filly Ice Blue settled for fourth.

The race, restricted to two-year-old old colts and fillies, was cancelled after being run for lack of competition last week.

In an earlier race, Shabbir powered seven-year-old joint favourite mare Blind Date to facile five lengths victory which earned him a back-to-back double.

The field was reduced to eight after co-favourite Play Boy and Sindh Malook were withdrawn.

The third and sixth races witnessed upsets when outsider filly Nyx and colt Spider Man toppled the favourites.

Nyx prevailed over favourite Lucky Gem by four-and-a-half lengths while Spider Man edged mare Rangilee by two and three-quarter lengths.

After finishing off the board thrice, public fancy Trust Again overcame all opposition to land the concluding race, beating Paidagir by six lengths.

He was steered to victory by Nasir who shared the riding honours with Shabbir. Nasir’s other winner was The Conqueror.
