A ‘grave’ attempt to kill self

TOBA TEK SINGH, Nov 16: A love-struck doctor was found unconscious in a woman’s grave after his attempt to commit suicide in the Mahmood Bhatti graveyard here in Kamalia on Sunday.

Dr Irfan Sheikh on Saturday night dug the grave of his cousin who had died two day ago, and laid himself there after consuming intoxicating pills.

In the morning, when some people saw the grave dug, they informed police. Kamalia city police officials found the doctor there unconscious and shifted him to the Kamalia Tehsil Headquarters hospital where he was in critical condition.

The doctor, 35, told police that he loved the (deceased) cousin, of Fatehpur in Kamalia. Her parents married the girl to another man, which broke his heart and he vowed never to marry. When she died two days ago, he also decided to commit suicide.

A Kamalia city police official said the grave had been refilled and the family of the deceased girl was not interested in taking action against the grave digger.
