KARACHI: Cut in bus fares likely
KARACHI, Nov 16: Sindh Chief Secretary Fazal-ur-Rehman has asked the transport secretary to revise the public transport fares downwards as and when the federal government announced a reduction in fuel prices.
In a statement issued here on Sunday, the chief secretary recalled that during a meeting between the transport secretary and other stakeholders of the transport sector at the time of raising fares, it had been agreed that with a reduction in the fuel prices in future, the fares would be reduced. He said the government was keenly interested in reducing the burden on the common man that had increased due to inflation.
He said that 500 buses would shortly be added to the Karachi public transport fleet under the prime minister’s CNG bus programme. He also stated that the Sindh Mass Transit Authority was being linked with the regional transport system, under which “rapid transport companies” would be constituted in the province.—Agencies
