NEW DELHI, Nov 15: The Indian cricket board plans to appeal to the Supreme Court a decision to initiate criminal proceedings against six of its current or former officials for filing false affidavits.

The Kolkata High Court ruled Wednesday that criminal proceedings be started against Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Shashank Manohar, former BCCI chief and federal government minister Sharad Pawar and four other officials.

“BCCI officials were not given an opportunity to put across their case,” Shukla was quoted as saying by the Press Trust of India. “We have decided to move the Supreme Court in this matter.”

The affidavits were filed in response to former BCCI chief Jagmohan Dalmiya’s legal challenge against a suspension by the BCCI. Pawar is the president-elect of the International Cricket Council, and was replaced as the BCCI president by Manohar two months ago.

BCCI secretary N. Srinivasan, his predecessor, Niranjan Shah, vice-president Chirayu Amin and chief administrator Ratnakar Shetty are the other four officials.

High Court judge Nadira Pathariya passed the order eight months after Dalmiya sought criminal proceedings against the officials for allegedly producing false documents in court.—AP
