KARACHI: Gas fields sale opposed

Published November 15, 2008

KARACHI, Nov 14: Leader of the opposition in the Sindh Assembly Jam Madad Ali has criticised the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) for its “changed attitude” after coming to power.

Speaking at a press conference along with MPAs Arif Mustafa Jatoi, Nusrat Abbasi and Marvi Rashdi at the press club here on Friday, he alleged that the PPP was bent upon privatising the Qadirpur gas fields at a throwaway price although the foundation stone of the project had been laid by the party’s chairperson, Benazir Bhutto. He described the project as a major revenue generating unit.

He alleged that the PPP government had also decided to privatise Booby oil fields of Sanghar, oil complex at Tando Adam , Steel Mills, Machine Tool Factory and Lakhra coal fields.

He said it would be great injustice if the Qadirpur gas fields were sold away, warning that the Sindh people would resist the plan tooth and nail if the government did not reverse the decision.—Staff Reporter
