MIRPURKHAS, Nov 14: Acute water shortage in Digri and Jhuddo talukas may not allow growers to sow wheat crop, said Jhuddo Taluka Nazim Jhuddo Haji Mohammad Hassan Leghari.

He said that even drinking water was not being provided in distributaries and minor canals of two talukas.

He told journalists that the sowing of wheat began from the 1st of this month but irrigation authorities were yet to release the required quantity of water into distributaries.

He said that taluka Digri and Jhuddo were at the tail of Nara canal while water was provided from Jamrao canal.

He said that the growers could not sow even five per cent of wheat crop because of the non-availability of water as most of the distributaries and minors were dry due to rotation programme.

He regretfully said that this year wheat production would remain below the target.

He urged the government to ensure proper supply of water in the two talukas.

PROJECTS: Mirpurkhas Taluka Nazim Ghulam Dastagir Kamali directed the concerned officials to complete drainage and water supply schemes in stipulated time as no negligence would not be tolerated.

He was speaking at a meeting held on Friday to review the pace of work on ongoing schemes. The meeting was also attended by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement MPA Faheem Ahmed Altafi, Shabbir Ahmed, Superintendent Engineer Public Health Engineering, Executive Engineer Arbab Masroor, and TMO Mohammad Saleem Jokhio and others.
