Shotgun blast kills teenager

LONDON, Nov 13: The 15-year-old boy gunned down in Derby after an argument with a group of youths in a local park died from a single blast from a shotgun, police said on Thursday.

Kadeem Blackwood died in hospital after being shot as he walked with friends in Caxton Street recreation ground on Tuesday evening.

“Our investigations reveal that this incident appears to be the result of a disagreement between two people which tragically escalated to this shooting,” said Assistant Chief Constable Peter Goodman.

A post-mortem revealed that Blackwood was shot in the chest at what was thought to be close range.

Detectives are still quizzing a 19-year-old man arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of murder but said they were looking for other suspects in connection with the killing.

Blackwood’s grandmother, whom police did not name, said he was a loving grandson. “He had good manners, was always polite and always smiling,” she said.

Teenage murders have regularly made the headlines this year although the vast majority have involved knives rather than guns.—Reuters
