Kuwaiti court Suspends stock trading

By Khalid Amin

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 13: A Kuwaiti court on Thursday ordered the suspension of transactions at the Kuwait Stock Exchange till a legal case filed by some stockbrokers to check the losses at the exchange was considered.

The court order was to take effect immediately and continue until the next hearing on Nov 17.

The court ruling issued by Chief Justice Najib Al Majid also included delay in dates for forward transactions till the case was reviewed.

According to details, lawyers Khalid Al Awadhi and Walid al Hadlaq had filed a case on behalf of two stockbrokers on Oct 8, against the prime minister, the minister of commerce and industry and chairman of KSE committee demanding trade to be halted till measures were taken to check losses at the exchange.

Meanwhile, the KSE has issued a statement saying all transactions carried out on KSE the morning of Nov 13 up to the time of suspension were valid and would not be annulled.
