Rs4m bank robbery

GUJRANWALA, Nov 12: Around half a dozen dacoits looted Rs4 million cash from a bank branch and injured two officials on resistance in Wapda Town here on Wednesday.

Reports said that armed outlaws barged into the UBL branch and held the guard, staff and customers hostage. The intruders thrashed the guard and injured two bank officials with butts of their guns on offering resistance. They later collected Rs4 million cash and managed to escape in a car they had parked outside.

Police were conducting raids for the arrest of the accused.

SUSPENDED: Three medical officers and as many paramedical staff of Alipur Chattha, Rasulnagar and Sodara Civil Hospitals were suspended from service on charges of absence from duty during night hours.

Reports said DCO Dr Pervaiz Ahmad Khan paid surprise visits to almost all Civil Hospitals in Wazirabad tehsil and found three medical officers, a nurse and two dispensers absent from their duty. The DCO also issued show-cause notices to them.

RESULTS: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Gujranwala, announced the results of matric supplementary examination 2008 here on Wednesday.

According to a notification, 38,770 candidates appeared in the examination out of whom 18,337 were declared successful showing a pass percentage of 47.29.
