PESHAWAR, Nov 12: The security forces continued search operation against militants in Michni area where curfew remained imposed for the second consecutive day on Wednesday, a police official said.

The police personnel, he said, at the checkposts on Warsak Road, Chagharmatti Road and Spair Sang Road didn’t allow motorists and even pedestrians to move towards the operation area.

The official said there were reports that two militants were killed in Juma Khan Korono area and several were injured but their names could not be ascertained.

He said militants armed with sophisticated weapons including an armoured personnel carrier had increased their activities in areas near Saro police station in Charsadda district.

A resident of Mathra Jamal Shah told this scribe by telephone that all educational institutions remained closed and people could not move to their work places in the city as public transport was not allowed on the roads from and to Peshawar city.

He said that inhabitants of various localities of the disturbed areas including women and children were walking on foot towards Peshawar and Charsadda districts with luggage on their shoulders. The curfew, he said, had caused shortage of food items.

Another official said that people coming from Mohmand Agency crossed Michini River in boats, adding that a bridge over the river was washed away by floods and another one was destroyed by militants.

Our Correspondent from Landi Kotal adds: The political administration of Khyber Agency on Wednesday served notice on the elders of different tribes asking them to flush out militants from their respective areas otherwise government would take action.

Taliban have increased their activities in Jamrud tehsil of the agency during the last few days. They had also snatched 13 containers on Nov 10 which were carrying goods for Nato forces in Afghanistan. The cases of kidnapping for ransom were also on the rise.

The imminent military operation against militants in Jamrud has caused unrest among the people and they are opting to shift to Peshawar.
