THATTA, Nov 11: Pakistan People’s Party activists and residents of Thatta district recorded complaints of wheat flour deficiency, falling educational standards, inadequate health services, water shortage and police excesses during an open katchehry held by two provincial ministers.

The Minister for Food Mir Nadir Magsi and Minister for Cooperation Abdul Jalil Memon held a katchehry at the Circuit House Makli, here on Tuesday.

PPP leader, Abdul Khaliq Soomro, said that responsible officers were neither respecting their party leaders nor resolving the problems of people. He said that it appeared as if the rule of earlier government was continuing in Thatta district.

He said sugarcane growers were not given payment of their crop even after one year and mills were yet to begin cane crushing. He said that late wheat sowing results into less production and shortage of wheat.

Ghulam Nabi Thaheem, Shamshad Behrani, Zulfiqar Chandio, former MNA Babu Ghulam Hussain, Ghulam Qadir Palijo, Aijaz Khwaja demanded change in the design of the Right Bank Outfall Drain.

They said that over 1.2 million acres of land was affected in the district due to sea water intrusion while RBOD would further destroy the fertile lands of this coastal district.

The participants also complained of the problems they faced during recompilation of revenue records.

The provincial ministers heard the complaints patiently and assured to resolve these on priority basis.
