India grab 2nd Test spot

Published November 11, 2008

DUBAI, Nov 10: Following their 2-0 series victory against Australia which gave them the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on Monday, India have claimed the second place in the ICC Test Championship table.

India recorded a 172-run victory against Ricky Ponting’s touring party on the final day of the fourth and final Test in Nagpur on Monday and in the process gained seven ratings points to draw level with South Africa on 116.

However, Graeme Smith’s team have now slipped just below India to the third position by a fraction of a ratings point.

All is not lost for the Proteas though. If they win both Tests in the forthcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, they will regain the second position.—Agencies
