Food samples for lab testing missing

GUJRANWALA, Nov 9: The samples of foodstuff from a bakery in Qila Didar Singh have gone missing from the Gujranwala Civil Hospital. Medical Superintendent Dr Ali Muhammad ordered an inquiry into the issue here on Sunday.

The food samples from the bakery were put in the hospital to be sent to Lahore for lab testing. Last week, students and teachers of a girls’ college fell unconscious after consuming the stuff bought from the bakery. Health Department officials sealed the shop and took samples of foodstuff from the shop for laboratory analysis.

These samples reportedly went missing from the Civil Hospital. Principal Perveen Khalida alleged that health officials had the samples disappeared. She said police did not arrest the real culprits.

DISMISSED: Five police officers were dismissed from service by the regional police officer for corruption. Those who were dismissed from service are: Inspector Kausar Naeem, Inspector Ijaz Husain, Sub-Inspector (SI) Irfan Saleem, SI Muhammad Altaf and SI Muhammad Akhtar. Also, the district and sessions court judge ordered a case against Saddar Kamoki and Aroop station house officers and other officials for detaining three people illegally.

PROBE: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif ordered an enquiry into alleged use of substandard material in two roads in Noshehra Virkan. He also announced a degree college for boys for the town.

He was in the city to attend a wedding ceremony. He visited Noshehra Virkan police station and checked official record.

He warned the officials to arrange banners inscribed with Rs2 roti offer at earthen ovens or tandoors.
