KHAIRPUR, Nov 6: Activists of the Jeay Sindh Students Federation held a demonstration outside the press club on Thursday in protest against cut in the grant of higher educational institutions of the province.

They demonstrators led by local party leaders Ayaz Sehto, Hoshoo Chandio and Jameel Jogi raised slogans against governor of Sindh and Higher Education Commission and demanded rise in the educational institutions’ grant.

They called for cut in unnecessary expenses of ministers and termed it the governor’s inefficiency that higher educational institutions’ grant had been slashed.

The protesters marched from the Shah Abdul Latif University to the press club where they held a demonstration.

GAS: PPP MNA Nawab Khan Wassan has said that Sindh has centuries old culture and traditions and some of its villages and cities have become synonymous with the names of poets, Sufi saints and leaders they have produced.

Mr Wassan said at a corner meeting on Wednesday that gas facility had been provided to Hami village (Sohu Kanasiro), which was named after renowned scholar late Atta Mohammad Hami.

Besides, Hussainabad and Babbar Wada villages had also been provided gas from MNA’s fund, he said.

He said that Rs27.5 million would be spent on gas supply schemes in the district. Maternity homes had also been set up in Therhi and Babarloi from the MNA’s fund, he added.

STRIKE: A complete shutter-down strike was observed in Hingorja town on Thursday in protest against rising incidents of robbery in the town and its adjoining areas.

A large number of people brought out a rally and held a demonstration on the National Highway during the strike to register protest.

Dr Abdul Fattah Memon, president of Shehri Ittehad, told journalists that recently, 12 armed men broke into his house and robbed valuables after holding him and the family hostage. He demanded arrest of the robbers and urged police to take concrete steps to curb crime.
