KOHAT, Nov 4: A soldier was killed and nine others were injured in a suicide attack on a checkpoint in Doaba area of Hangu district on Tuesday morning.

Hangu district police chief Sajjad Khan said a man rammed his explosives-laden car into the military checkpoint at a bridge in Doaba bazaar. Ten security personnel were injured and one of them died in the Combined Military Hospital in Thall.

Police and military personnel cordoned off the area and collected parts of the car used in the attack.

Traffic between Hangu and Parachinar remained suspended for several hours.

The body of sepoy Haq Nawaz was sent to his hometown from Kohat.

According to sources, preliminary investigation indicated involvement in the attack of Taliban hiding in Orakzai Agency, who are under pressure to vacate the area or register themselves with the political administration.It is learnt that local people, especially the Aa Khels, Rabia Khels and Mishtis, have decided not to take part in attacks on militants.

Security has been tightened in areas of Kohat and Hangu adjacent to Orakzai Agency and Darra Adamkhel.
