Two brothers get death for murder

GUJRANWALA, Nov 4: A local court handed down death sentence to two brothers and life term to a woman, Sobia, along with a fine of Rs50,000 each in a murder case here on Tuesday.

They will have to undergo a six-month rigorous imprisonment each in case of default.

According to the prosecution, Abid and Sagheer along with their relative Sobia had killed Shahbaz over an agricultural land dispute in a Ferozewala village about two years ago.

Meanwhile, Naushera Virkan additional district and sessions judge Amjad Ali Khan awarded death sentence to accused Ilyas and life term to Mubarik along with a fine of Rs100,000 each in a murder case.

They will have to a undergo six-month rigorous imprisonment in case of default.

According to the prosecution, the convicts had killed Yaqoob over a monetary dispute in Naushera Virkan on Jan 6, 2006.

FIRE: A thread-manufacturing factory and a utility store caught fire and were reduced to ashes in the city on Tuesday.

Reports said the dayshift was functioning in the factory near Alam Chowk Bypass when a fire broke out and it engulfed the entire machinery, raw material and other equipment.

Rescue 1122 rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire after two-hour efforts.

The factory owner said loss was being worked out.

In another incident, a fire erupted in a utility store in People’s Colony owing to a shot-circuit, reducing to ashes many daily-use articles, including ghee, sugar, cereals and flour.
