Seeds prevail in ranking tennis

KARACHI, Nov 2: All but one seeded players eased into the men’s and juniors’ under-17 singles next round of the 18th STA Talent Hunt Sindh ranking tennis championship at the CDGK Sports Complex on Sunday.

Top seed Nasir Mushtaq, second seed Robin Das and third seed Shamayal advanced into men’s singles next round following emphatic victories over their opponents.

Nasir handed a 6-0, 6-0 defeat to Ali Zubair, Robin got the better of M. Essa Jee 6-0 4-0 (retired) while Shamayal also had a 6-0, 6-0 win over Saeed Azher.

Five players, including second and third seeds, advanced into the juniors’ under-17 singles last eight as fourth seed Bilal Shariff made his exit. Bilal went down 4-6, 3-6 to Nameer Shamsi.

Second seed Talha Saeed was home 6-3, 7-5 against Uzair A. Qadir while third seed Mustafa Zaidi overpowered Shayan 6-1,

6-0.

Top seed Omer Shahid, who got a first round bye, meets Muneeb Khan in the second round match on Monday.

Boys’ Under-13 (first round): Talha Khurram bt Usman Shabbir 8-2; Hassan Anwer bt Zaki Niazi 8-6; Sanwal Memon bt Kamil Tayyabali 8-0; Saud Shoaib walkover Saad Pervez; Aamir Hussain bt Sarawan Memon 8-2; Ali Hussain walkover Tauqeer Abbas.

Boys/girls under-11 singles (round robin): Saud Shoaib bt Asim Ahmed Allawala 8-0; Maheen Dada bt Taha Farhan 8-5.
