QUETTA, Nov 2: Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party Chairman Mahmood Khan Achakzai has called for transparent use of relief funds in quake-hit areas of Ziarat and Pishin.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, he said the provincial governor and chief minister would be held responsible for any misuse of the relief funds.

Mr Achakzai thanked Saudi Arabia, Germany and international and domestic donors for their contributions.

He said that it was the government’s responsibility to ensure that the aid reached the deserving people.

He said the government should take notice of complaints that people in certain areas had been ignored during distribution of tents, blankets, food and medicine.Mr Achakzai called for speedy reconstruction of houses before the onset of sever winter.

He also said that the sheltering of Al Qaeda and Taliban in South and North Waziristan would endanger the integrity of the state and the truth about movement of foreigners in border villages must not be concealed.

He called for reinstatement of the deposed judges, including Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhary, and said that the All Parties Democratic Movement and lawyers were united on the demand for restoration of the Nov 3, 2007, judiciary.

Mr Achakzai said that the 1973 Constitution was not a sacred document which could not be amended, adding that there was need for a new social contract giving equal rights to the provinces in order to steer the nation out of the current political and constitutional crises.
