ISLAMABAD, Nov 1: The Red Crescent Society of Iran has despatched the country’s first consignment of relief goods worth $310,000 for the people affected by Wednesday’s earthquake in Balochistan.

The goods sent include 1,000 tents, 5,000 blankets, 30,000 packets of washing powder and 10,000 tins of canned fish.

According to the Iranian embassy, the organisa tion has already sent two doctors along with 40 cartons of essential medicines to the affected areas.

Meanwhile, French President Nicolas Sarkozy has expressed sympathy over the loss of lives. According to the French embassy, Mr Sarkozy in a message to President Asif Zardari said that in these difficult times, he wanted to assure France’s sympathy and solidarity towards the people of Pakistan.

APP adds: The first flight carrying relief goods from Saudi Arabia arrived in Quetta on Saturday.

Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz announced on Friday an aid of $100 million for the affected people.
