SUKKUR, Nov 1: A woman was killed and her mother-in-law was injured in a crossfire between robbers and villagers near Ghazi Khan Mangnejo village in the limits of 20-Mile police station in the katcha area of Bagarji late on Friday night.

Reports reaching here said that the villagers chased the robbers who were fleeing after snatching 150 goats from one Abdul Karim Kalwar in Jhali Kalwari village and caught up with them at Ghazi Khan Mangnejo village where scores of armed villagers exchanged fire with them.

Two village women were caught up in the crossfire and one Ms Raheela alias Sadori, wife of Soomar Mangnejo, was killed on the spot and her mother-in-law Ms Nawab Khatoon suffered injuries while the robbers managed to escape with the booty.

Later, police and villagers followed the footprints of the robbers, which led them to Ibrahim village and after house-to-house search, police arrested five suspects Ahmed Kalhoro, Yar Mohammad Jatoi, Ajeeb, Liaqat Jatoi and Asghar Junejo and claimed to have recovered 3 KK rifles, two handguns and a sizable quantity of bullets in their possession.

Man killed: A man was killed and two women were injured by some armed men over a dispute over matrimony in Ali Hassan Panhwar village near Ubauro late on Friday night.

Reports reaching here said that a group of armed men broke into the house of Mumtaz Panhwar and opened fire on the inmates, killing Mumtaz Panhwar on the spot and injuring his wife Saeeda and mother Waziran.

Police moved the injured to Rahim Yar Khan hospital but did not register any case.

The villagers claimed that the murder was an offshoot of a running dispute between two groups of Panhwar community.
