PESHAWAR, Nov 1: A police sub-inspector was injured when a time bomb went off near a checkpost in the limits of Tehkal police station at University Road here in the small hours of Saturday.

Policemen at Gumbati checkpost told journalists that the explosion occurred at 1.30am which caused injuries to ASI Najeem Khan, who was rushed to a local hospital and after getting preliminary treatment he was shifted to his residence at Gulabad.

They said that sidewall of a room of the police post and a tube-well were also destroyed in the explosion. The shutters of six shops in a market closed to the police post and windowpanes of the nearby houses were also smashed.

Residents of the area said that main gate and balcony of two houses owned by Wasil Khan and Asif was also damaged.

The residents said that they came out of their houses after hearing the blast but the thick black smoke spread in the area made it difficult for them to know as to what was happened.

Policemen said that they patrolled the areas till midnight but did not see movement of any suspected person. —Bureau Report
