Clocks put back

Published November 1, 2008

ISLAMABAD, Oct 31: Clocks across the country were put back by an hour (GMT+5) at Friday midnight, after five months of daylight saving time (DST).

Neither the ministry of water and power nor the Pakistan Electric Power Company issued figures about electricity saved because of the daylight saving time introduced on June 1.

Initially, the DST had been enforced for three months, but it was later extended for another two months.

The move was part of the government’s energy conservation plan aimed at saving 1,000 megawatts a day and it required shops to close by 9pm.

Sources said the government had not conducted any survey to assess the extent of power saving.
