KARACHI, Oct 30: Pakistan’s leading cueists Khurram Agha’s encounter against Yan Kunis of Israel in the on-going IBSF World Snooker Championship in the Austrian city of Wels has surprised many back home. Pakistan has no ties whatsoever with Israel.

Though Pakistan’s No 2 snooker player chalked up a 4-1 victory against the Israeli opponent to post second successive win in the tourney the other day, his appearance in the match has raised quite a few eyebrows.

Pakistan has a history of skipping sporting matches against Israel if drawn in the same pool in different global competitions in the past.

Earlier, Agha had registered 4-1 victory over England’s Craig Steadman in the opener. However, he suffered a jolt when he went down 1-4 to Steve Misfud of Australia in the Group N match on Friday.

On the other hand, Pakistan No 1 Saleh Mohammad who struggled to overcome Egypt’s Mohamed Elhamy and Finland’s Juha Erkinmikko by an identical margin of 4-3 in the first two matches suffered 1-4 loss at the hands of Ben Hancorn of England in the third match.

The two Pakistani players are yet to play four group matches apiece until Nov 3. The championship concludes on Nov 8.
