KARACHI: Two MQM workers shot dead

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Oct 30: Two activists of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement were gunned down by unknown persons in Nazimabad late on Wednesday night.

Police said Ahmed Husain, a member of the Pak Colony sector committee, and Mohammad Farhan, a worker of the same sector, were headed home on a motorcycle late in the night when they were targeted by unknown persons near Sir Syed Girls College.

Police said the two victims were rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, but they were pronounced dead on arrival.

Hospital sources said both victims suffered multiple bullet wounds, causing their instant deaths. Following the incident, party activists and leaders reached the hospital to inquire about the incident.

An FIR was registered at the Rizvia police station against unknown persons. Police said the killing seemed to be part of the tit-for-tat killings taking place in the city between rival groups.

The Rabita Committee of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement also issued a statement, condemning the killings and urging the government to take notice of the situation.

Trader killed

A trader was found murdered in his apartment on Rashid Minhas Road late on Wednesday night.

Police said Daulat Ram, 50, lived alone in a unit of the Samia Classic apartments. On Wednesday night his phone remained unattended when his son, Jai Ram, tried to contact his father from outside the city.

Subsequently Jai contacted some friends of his father’s, who went to the apartment and found the door locked from inside. They informed the union of the apartment complex whose personnel later broke open the door and found Daulat Ram dead. Police said the victim had been slaughtered. The police, quoting the victim’s friends, said he came from Sanghar district.

Later, police took the body to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a postmortem examination.

Young man shot dead

The body of a young man riddled with bullet wounds was found in Lyari early on Thursday morning.

Police said initially the victim was unidentified, but later in the day he was identified as Ismail alias Kashif.

The area police said he was a dacoit wanted in several criminal cases. They said apparently his associates killed him in a dispute over the distribution of looted property.

Police said the victim had suffered gunshots from a G-3 rifle.
