Victim of forced marriage moves court

By Our Correspondent

LARKANA, Oct 29: The Larkana circuit bench of the Sindh High Court on Wednesday issued notices to the father-in-law of a woman who complained to court that she had been forced into marriage with his eight-year-old son, the SHO of Thull police station and the Sindh additional advocate-general, directing them to appear in court on Nov 11.

Sufia Buriro of Thull, Jacobabad, who was represented by Mazhar Ali Siddiki advocate, stated in her petition that about 12 days ago, her brother had forced her marriage with eight-year-old Hafeezullah against her will and despite her protest.

Her father-in-law Qalab Ali Buriro kept her confined in a room after the marriage and planned to kill her in collusion with his brothers after accusing her of having illicit relations with her cousin Rahib.

She sensed danger her life and escaped from the house of her father-in-law on Oct 25 to her uncle Soomar in Laungani village in Khanpur. Her father-in-law registered a false FIR at Thull police station the other day, accusing her uncles Soomar, Sikandar and Mohammed Panah of kidnapping her.
