Ex-MPA remanded in custody

LAHORE, Oct 29: Police obtained a six-day physical remand of former MPA and Kasur District Council chairman Chaudhry Hakim Ali here on Wednesday.

Township police had arrested Hakim Ali from Green Town in connection with two extortion (land-grabbing) cases registered against him, his two sons and dozens of accomplices.

Sadar division SP (investigation) Srafraz Ahmad Falki said the remand was obtained by an anti-terrorism court, while raids were being conducted in Lahore and Kasur to arrest his two sons and other men.

The former MPA had illegally occupied 85-kanal LDA land in Green Town a few years back and sold it out to Sheikh Amjad and his brother who later developed Gulshan-i-Mustafa housing scheme there. The two brothers sold plots to a number of applicants.

Hakim Ali was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in connection with a misappropriation case and was released one-and-a-half-years back.

A police official said after his release from the jail, the former MPA started denying that he had sold plots to Sheikh Amjad and moved the court against plot owners.

The accused and his accomplices did not hand over plots to their owners, resorted to aerial firing on number of times to scare them and posted their armed men at the site.

The owners also challenged the former MPA in the court besides submitting applications to the police, but they showed their helplessness against the influential accused.

The victims later submitted an application to the chief minister’s complaint cell which ordered the police to register a case against the accused after finding him guilty of mal-intention.

Two cases were registered against Hakim Ali, his two sons and dozens of their accomplices.

Sheikh Amjad is going through a physical remand while his brother has been sent on a judicial remand.
