KARACHI: Road development scheme approved
By Our Staff Reporter
KARACHI, Oct 29: The Sindh government has approved a scheme for the expansion of Superhighway between Karachi and Hyderabad.
The scheme also provides for repair and renovation of the road between Naudero and Lakhi Ghulam Shah, Khairpur-Larkana bridge, Sann, Sakrand Bridge and the Lyari Expressway.
This approval was given at a meeting held at the Chief Minister’s House on Wednesday. Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah chaired the meeting.
While reviewing the federal government funded projects for the construction, repair and renovation of roads in the province, Mr Shah stressed the need for accelerating work on these schemes so that people of remote areas could benefit from communication facilities.
He pointed out that commuters, industrialists and traders had been expressing their concern for long over the deteriorated condition of the Superhighway’s portion near Hyderabad.
Federal communication secretary Sharif Ahmed and general manager of the National Highway Authority Khalid Latif apprised the meeting of the problems in executing the schemes.
The meeting was attended, among others, by Sindh Minister for Works and Services Manzoor Wassan, Chief Secretary Fazal-ur-Rehman, Principal Secretary to the CM Sohail Akbar Shah and chief economist (planning and development).
