ISLAMABAD, Oct 28: Former Test cricketers Javed Miandad, Saleem Malik, Ramiz Raja and Wasim Akram have also joined the ‘Constitution Committee’ formed by Federal Sports Ministry for suggesting various amendments in the constitution of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

A board member, on condition of anonymity, told Dawn on Tuesday from Lahore: “The committee is scheduled to meet on Nov 4 under the chairmanship of Federal Law Minister Farooq H Naek and the top former players have been specially invited to join the committee.”

Captain Shoaib Malik and vice captain Misbah-ul-Haq are already in the committee.

Regarding the agenda of the meeting, the board member said: “It will include restructuring of domestic cricket system and suggesting amendments in PCB’s constitution”.

Earlier, the Federal Sports Ministry had formed a fifteen-member committee to review and amend PCB’s constitution 2007 which also met under the chairmanship of Federal Sports Minister, Najamuddin Khan on Sept 27.

“We also received an eleven-page document with the letter of Ministry of Sports which carried a comparative study of constitutions of the cricket boards of Pakistan, India, Australia and South Africa,” said the board member.

“The documents also had brief information about 11 regions and 71 districts which currently hold the playing rights under PCB’s domestic cricket structure” he added.

When contacted to comment on the Constitution Committee’s role, Federal Sports Minister Najamuddin Khan said: “I am not aware of the expansion of our recommended committee list. I believe it still have the names of fifteen members and not more.”

The list also includes the names of newly appointed chairman PCB, Ijaz Butt and Director General Saleem Altaf.
