KARACHI: Minister, secy at odds over dept affairs

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Oct 27: Differences between the minister and the secretary of the works and services department over the administrative affairs has turned into a row prompting the minister to approach the Sindh chief minister with the complaint that the secretary was hindering a smooth working of the department, it is learnt.

Sources in the Sindh government told Dawn that the Minister, Manzoor Wassan, had written to Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah that Dr Fazalullah Pechuho was creating unnecessary bottlenecks in the smooth running of the administrative affairs.

In his reply to the chief minister, the sources said, Dr Pechuho stated that during his ex-Pakistan leave period (May 17-27, 2008) almost 105 assistant engineers and 33 executive engineers were transferred and posted. Many premature transfers and postings were made against the regulation department’s advice dated 13-11-1972.

The minister had moved a summary to the chief minister regarding exclusion of the sub-engineer and other posts from the purview of the Sindh Public Service Commission.

Mr Wassan could not be approached despite repeated attempts by Dawn to seek his version.
