LAHORE, Oct 26: Tariq Aziz was re-elected chairman of the Lahore Race Club (LRC) at the club members Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Sunday.

Eight of the sitting 10 stewards were re-elected while two tasted defeat. The stewards elected are Arbab Nur Mohammad Khan, Syed Fakhar Imam, Malik Hamid Ali Noon, Sheikh Sajjad Hassan, Mian Abdul Waheed, Parvaiz Masood and Syed Parvaiz Hussain.

Those defeated were Malik Ghulam Nabi and Khawaja M. Arif while those replacing them were Syeddah Abida Hussain and Choudhry Ahmad Saeed, whose inclusion on the stewards’ panel was greatly hailed for being impartial and judicious in taking decisions while being outspoken critics of the sport.

The members were clearly divided in two groups — one led by the sitting chairman Tariq Aziz and the other by Syed Fakhar Imam and Begum Abida Hussain.—AG
