RAWALPINDI, Oct 26: A labourer was killed and his two colleagues sustained multiple injuries when they were buried under tons of loose soil while digging a roadside for sewerage lines at Mallet Colony Committee Chowk on Sunday, rescuers said.

According to police, a group of labourers, including Faqeer Ahmad, Gull Muhammad and Johra Bhai, were digging a roadside for the sewerage lines when all of a sudden a large part of the road collapsed and buried all of them.

The police said Johra Bhai remained under the soil for more than one hour and later his body was recovered by the rescuers. However, the rescue 1122 team recovered two of the victims alive and shifted them to the District Headquarters hospital.

Meanwhile, a man was shot dead by his rivals in the jurisdiction of the Airport police on Sunday.

According to police, Jumma Khan left his house along with his friend Haneef when his rivals Qasim Khan and three other unidentified persons intercepted and shot him to death and escaped. The police said a dispute over money led to the killing.

In an other incident, five robbers forced into a house at Gulzar-a-Quaid and looted gold ornaments, cash and cell phones.

Muhammad Sadique, the robbery victim, told the Airport police that he was sitting with his guests at his house when the robbers entered his house and held the inmates, including the guests, and snatched Rs20,000, four gold rings and five cell phones and later escaped after locking all the family members inside the house.

Our Staff Reporter from Islamabad adds: A pedestrian was killed after being hit by a vehicle, police said here on Sunday.Shiraz Anwar suffered multiple injures when a tractor hit him when he was walking along the roadside at Dhok Zeeshan Golra.

The driver escaped from the scene leaving behind the injured on the road. Later, he was shifted to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Father of the deceased in his statement told police that the incident occurred due to driver’s negligence as, he added, he was driving the vehicle in a reckless manner.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Afzal’s car was stolen from Mangal Bazar at I-9/1.
