KARACHI, Oct 26: A five-member inquiry committee has been set up to look into the role of 31 officers of the Karachi Building Control Authority (KBCA) during their posting in Lyari, Saddar and Liaquatabad towns with reference to the illegal constructions.

It was observed that the towns had been showing the highest number of buildings raised illegally.

According a recent survey ordered by Chief Controller of Buildings Manzoor Kadir, some 100 buildings were found to have been constructed illegally in the city and 94 of them are situated in Lyari, Saddar and Liaquatabad towns alone.

Taking notice of the situation, Sindh Minister for Local Government Agha Siraj Durrani had placed the 31 KBCA officers under suspension. They include controllers, deputy controllers, assistant controllers and building inspectors.

Mr Kadir said that when the matter came before a division bench of the Sindh High Court, the petitioners, KBCA, pleaded that all the buildings identified be attached and any KBCA personnel found responsible be taken to task.

Meanwhile, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad was briefed by the chief controller about high-rises in the city.
