Ton-up Adnan gives NWFP robust start

Published October 26, 2008

KARACHI, Oct 25: An undefeated Adnan Raees century and equally good contributions from Yasir Hameed and Wajid Ali guided the NWFP to 293 for two in their first innings against Balochistan on the opening day of the Pentangular Cup fixture at the Bugti Stadium in Quetta on Saturday.

Vindicating skipper Umar Gul’s decision to bat first, the NWFP made a flying start through openers Yasir and Adnan, who added 109 until Yasir was dismissed seven minutes before lunch for 72 (78 balls, 13 boundaries).

Wajid Ali then joined Adnan at the crease for even bigger partnership. The duo put on 176 before pace bowler Abdur Rauf broke through when he bowled Wajid for 82 (191 balls, eight fours).

The left-handed Adnan, however, carried on the good work by finishing the day with 122 (265 balls) against his name. His third first-class century includes 13 boundaries in a stay of six hours and 20 minutes.
