MOHMAND AGENCY: Tribesmen vow not to cultivate poppy

By Our Correspondent

MOHMAND AGENCY, Oct 25: Farmers belonging to Khuzai village here have vowed not to cultivate poppy crop in future.

This was decided by a 70-mermebr delegation in a meting with Political Agent Amjad Ali on Saturday.

The delegates assured the political agent that the tribesmen would fully cooperate with the government regarding the elimination of poppy from the area.

Members of the delegation pledged that they would instead opt for alternate crops.

GHEE TINS RECOVERED: Political authorities here claimed to have foiled a bid to smuggle ghee.

Sources said that on a tip-off, they cordoned off roads leading to the Yaka Ghund checkpost and signaled a vehicle to stop.

They said, on search, 60 tins of ghee were recovered from the vehicle and driver Aminullah and the vehicle were taken into custody.
