KARACHI, Oct 23: Karachi Port Trust (KPT) drew 1-1 with Afghan FC in the Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) match played here at the Peoples Sports Complex on Thursday. Meanwhile, in the two other matches played at Rawalpindi, Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) gave Pakistan Television (PTV) a 5-0 drubbing and Army edged past Navy 3-2.

The first match between KPT and Afghan FC saw KPT scoring first when their striker Shahid Salim took advantage of the opening created for him by winger Zafar Majeed in the 19th minute. The score at interval was 1-0.

Parity was restored by Afghan FC only two minutes into the second half through their striker Aminullah, who was brilliant at beating KPT’s goalkeeper Abdul Ghani. According to the message received here, the KRL-PTV encounter at the KRL Stadium in Rawalpindi was a completely one-sided affair. The five goals scored by the winners included a hat-trick by their striker Mohammad Rasool. The first goal was scored by Abid Khan though, when he converted Zia-us-Salam’s pass in the 20th minute to make the score 1-0 at halftime. This was followed by two goals by Rasool in the 60th and 70th minutes.

The 83rd minute saw Mohammad Ahmed scoring off a pass from Zubair. It also happened to be the 300th goal of the event. Rasool’s third goal followed two minutes later.

The third match played at Rawalpindi’s Army Stadium between Army and Navy saw the seamen scoring first, in the 32nd minute, through their striker Farhan Qadir. The 40th minute produced another through a header by fellow striker Asif Mehmood.

Going down 2-0, Army came from behind to score in the 43rd minute through a header by winger Sharjeel Vicky followed by another, the leveler, scored by Mohammad Khabab in the 45th minute. Army’s winning goal was scored by Shabbir in the 61st minute.

There will be no matches on Friday.

Saturday’s fixtures: Karachi Electric Supply Corporation v Afghan FC at Peoples Sports Complex; Pakistan Steel v National Bank of Pakistan at Pakistan Steel Township Ground. Matches to kick off at 4.00pm.
