JEREZ (Spain), Oct 22: Pakistan’s talented race driver Adam Khan has had an outstanding season in the Spanish round of the Euroseries 3000, closing the gap with the opponents and eventually coming on top of the championship rankings.

With 14 points, the Pakistani gained on experienced Leal and Razia (racing in GP2 Asia this weekend), as well as on Onidi and Prost. The fight for the title becomes really close this weekend with four races still to go and 38 points available.

Last week, TP Formula was the only team to mount rain tyres which allowed Adam to immediately score the best performance and to remain at the top of the results.

However, in the final 10 minutes, rain stopped and the track began to dry so a new fight for the pole position commenced. Prost managed to score the best time, followed by Onidi, while Adam remained blocked in the traffic and could not improve his lap time, finishing third.

In Race 1, the Pakistani was faster on the track, also scoring the point for fastest lap and engaged in a spectacular fight with the son of the four-time F1 world champion Alain Prost. At the bend, however, Adam who is aiming for the championship, decided not to take too many risks and finished second, just eight seconds behind the French driver.

The second lap started with a very close battle between Adam and Crestani with them overtaking each other several times but with the Pakistani youngster managing to remain at the front.

He began the third lap in fourth position behind Garza, Beretta and Mendez. At this stage, five drivers were in within a few seconds of each other. Adam, despite the pressure put on him by the GP Racing duo, kept attacking the two Elk Motorsport drivers in front of him pushing Mendez into a mistake and then remarkably overtaking Beretta from the outside to turn out the winner.

In the championship standings, Adam is now third. The next round will be in Barcelona in two weeks time and it promises to be really spectacular with so many drivers ready to fight hard in view of the Italian grand finale in Magione on Nov 30.

Adam said: “It is fantastic to be on the podium twice in the same weekend despite the reversed grid. The second race, in particular, was extremely exciting and challenging because I also had pressure from behind so I had to judge very carefully when to make the moves.

“The car has always been very fast and I am in a great shape, not feeling the pressure so I really look forward to Barcelona and of course aiming for the championship.”—Agencies
