RAWALPINDI, Oct 22: Robbers struck at seven different places in the city and made off with cash, gold ornaments and auto thieves took away four vehicles, police said on Wednesday.

Javaid Iqbal, one of the robbery victims in a complaint lodged with the Sadar Barooni police said he was associated with a private company and was going to his office along with his colleague when two motorcycle riders intercepted their van and forced them to stop.

He said as he stopped the vehicle, the motorcycle riders pulled out their pistols and snatched away Rs 125,000.

Syed Iqbal Mustafa Bukhari, was on his way to home from commercial market along with his wife when a motorcycle rider blocked their way and snatched away purse from his wife.

The purse contained Rs5000, seven gold rings and a gold bangle.

Some burglars broke into the house of Raja Abdul Aziz, in the Waris Khan area and took away Rs70,000, six gold bangles and other gold jewellery items.

Sajid Hussain lodged a similar complaint of theft of his motorcycle with the Sadiqabad police.

Meanwhile, a doctor of Railway hospital Rawalpindi, who had been missing since last month after he left for home in his car, is believed to have been kidnapped as the abductor have started to make telephone calls to his family, but have not demanded ransom, Dawn has learnt.

Dr Abdul Razaq, assistant admin officer at Railway hospital left for home in his car on September 22, 2008 but he did not reach his destination.

A source close to the investigation revealed that since the doctor’s wife received the first telephone call, believed to the dialed from Swat (Behreen), the police have added a section of kidnapping in the FIR and started investigation on different lines.

He said the caller who did not give his name informed the doctor’s wife that he was in good health and would soon return to his home.

Another call, received by the wife of the abducted doctor was made by a woman.

The latest call was made by an unidentified man who posed himself as a policeman. The caller informed the doctor’s wife that he had released the doctor and he would soon make her a call.

Though the doctor’s wife allowed talking to a man who turned out to be a “stranger”.

Since the Railway hospital doctor had been abducted, the doctor’s community has expressed their concern and demanded that the authorities concerned should recover the missing doctor and bring the culprits to justice.
