GUJRANWALA, Oct 21: The district police have arrested more than 40 Afghan nationals who had been staying at seminaries in Dhuley and Model Town without registration, and sent them back to Afghanistan.

The police had launched a crackdown on Afghans who had been illegally staying here for the last few years. A number of Afghan nationals have been running their businesses while staying in various parts of the city without getting themselves registered.

SP Rana Abdul Jabbar said the police were preparing the lists of those Afghan nationals who were residing in rented houses in the city to take appropriate action against them.

EXECUTION DELAYED: A convicted murderer gets one more month as he was allowed on Tuesday – a day before execution – time to make a compromise with the aggrieved party.

According to the prosecution, Shabir Husain killed Munir Husain over an election dispute in Hafizabad in 1990. The district and sessions judge awarded him death sentence, which the Lahore High Court and the apex court upheld.

The president too rejected his appeal for clemency after which the sessions court issued his death warrants. However, his family appealed to the president to give him one month for reconciliation, which was allowed.
