KARACHI, Oct 19: Fancied four-year-old chestnut colt Crown Prince obliged connections and punters alike as three jockeys – Essa, Nasir and Shabbir – excelled in the saddle with a brace apiece in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

The colt edged bay The Conqueror by distance under Essa to register second successive win, giving the owner Haji Khuda Bux Rajar and trainer Mushtaq Ali Khan a sound start as they completed a hat trick by landing two cups.

Seven-year-old Afroze Jehan was placed third three lengths away while filly Baby John completed the board finishing further four lengths behind.

Making amends, three-year-old bay filly Moomal pulled off the first upset of the day, storming to half-a-length victory over favourite filly Claim To Fame to land The Eclipse Stakes, a term race for three-year-old horses, to be run over one mile.

They were followed by colt The Reyan and filly Blossom.

Taking advantage of his ability, favourite eight-year-old bay Naseeb claimed The Mile Championship getting the better of filly Phapha Kutni by five lengths in a mediocre time in the next race. Her stable mate Abhi Abhi was third among five runners.

Both the cup winners were piloted home by Nasir.

Running tactfully on the heels of opponents, Naseeb overtook them one by one after negotiating the bend and getting into straight for home to win hands down.

Earlier, favourite filly 3 Knot 3 eased to one-and-a-half lengths victory over After Shock to claim The Performance Cup restricted for two-year-old colts and fillies.

The first and second races ended in a blaze of glory for favourites – colts Walayat and Halal Tob respectively.

The former made it two on the trot beating Shan-e-Mir by two lengths with S. Khan astride while the latter prevailed over Chun Chun Chun also by two lengths under Essa.

Shabbir galloped a joint favourite Back In Action and a favourite Invazor to impressive victories in back-to-back races while chestnut Victory Prince beat Mixed Blessing by three-and-a-half lengths to earn honours in the concluding race.
