Talat likely to be sacked

LAHORE, Oct 16: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to appoint series-to-series manager with the national team as the experience of appointing Talat Ali for two years proved a failure.

Sources told Dawn that Talat, a former Test opener, was a paid manager but during his two-year term, Pakistan team was embroiled in numerous controversies.

But sources said the manager never reported incidents of indiscipline committed by some of the players in his official report.

A member of the PCB Governing Board had also raised his point on the manager’s failure in controlling such incidents but the previous management of the PCB did not take any action despite the objection raised by that member.

Sources said that the new PCB chairman Ijaz Butt will have a meeting with Talat, before announcing the decision.

On the recent short trip to Canada, a leading fast bowler was reportedly involved in indiscipline case.

Talat was appointed in October 2006 by then chairman Dr Nasim Ashraf with the condition that his services may be suspended at a month’s notice.
