Train service resumes

Published October 17, 2008

MIRPURKHAS, Oct 16: Pakistan Railways on Wednesday resumed the services of Mehran Express between Karachi and Mirpurkhas after a lapse of nine months.

The running of train was suspended by railways authorities because of riots following the assassination of Ms Benazir Bhutto on December 27, 2007. Pakistan Railways had suspended the service on the pretext of non-availability of bogies.

Suspension of train service caused hardships for commuters travelling between Mirpurkhas and Karachi, while people were compelled to pay higher fares to coaches and buses.

Mehran Express train reached Mirpurkhas on Wednesday night at 9.30pm.
