KARACHI: Inquiry body formed

KARACHI, Oct 16: A high-level meeting at the Sindh home department has decided to constitute a three-member committee to probe into the causes of prisoners’ revolt at Malir Jail in Landhi.

Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfikar Mirza, Minister for Anti-Narcotics Agha Taimore, Adviser to Sindh Chief Minister on Jails Gul Mohammad Jakhrani, Home Secretary Arif Ahmed Khan, IGP of Sindh Babar Khattak, Special Secretary Home Kamran Dost, CCPO Wasim Ahmed, IG Jails Mohammad Yamin Khan, DIG East A.D. Khawaja and other senior officials attended the meeting on Thursday which reviewed reports regarding the prisoners’ revolt.

Adviser to CM on jails Gul Mohammad Jakhrani would lead the three-member committee.

It was also decided in the meeting that a ‘Jail Vigilance Committee’ comprising citizens would be formed to monitor the jail affairs.

The committee would have full authority in monitoring jail matters.—PPI
