LAHORE, Oct 15: Fancied three-year-old colt Blitz established himself as the fastest sprinter with a fluent victory in the feature event during the Lahore Gymkhana midweek races at the Racecourse on Wednesday.

Contesting in the first race, Blitz emerged as one of the best. He defeated bay colt Jang Ju by over six lengths.

Murad King and Bird Fly completed the frame among eight runners.

Trained by Sohail Aziz, the colt was ridden by riding boy Khalil Vicky.

Sohail Aziz, who began the day’s racing with a victory through Blitz, returned home with a brace of winners, saddling chestnut colt Best owner, the winner of the sixth and last race of the card.

Three-year-old bay colt Victory Sargent won the supporting and the second event.

Once in the lead, the colt was not even challenged by his 13 rivals.

The third race turned out to be the day’s most keenly contested event. So close was the finish with five horses that the magic eye of the camera had to be consulted to find out the winner.

Changer took the lead at the top of the stretch pressing a moderate pace but he was soon overrun by Fire King.

Changer rallied again to pip Fire King at the finishing line to get a neck’s verdict in his favour.

Riding boy M. Jamil was the most successful among the rider. He rode a brace of winners –– Blank Cheque and Candidate –– in the fourth and fifth race respectively.

Lahore race Club (LRC) stewards deferred the result of an inquiry against rider M. Wasim Khan for crossing sharply and disturbing three horses in the feature event, the Super Cup, which was held last Sunday.

Three jockeys Shahid Rehman on Twinky, Javaid Iqbal on Eve and Shakeel Mahmood on Shock Wave had complained against M. Wasim Khan for crossing soon after the start of the race and disturbing the running of their mounts.

According to video film, Wasim first disturbed favourite Twinky and subsequently the other two. It is being alleged that Wasim had links with bookmakers and he is employed to play the trick.

He had been punished for the same notoriety previously. He is said to be a very influential rider.

Bookmakers and punters shared the day’s proceedings evenly.
