Synagogue built in Al Aqsa premises

By Syed Rashid Husain

RIYADH, Oct 14: Criticising Israel for building a synagogue within the premises of Al Aqsa, OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu termed it an aggression against the Mairaj of holy Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him), and a major offensive against the holy sites of the Islamic nation.

In a statement, Prof Ihsanoglu said the act was a violation of international laws and Geneva Conventions which prohibit occupying nations from committing any aggression against holy shrines or religious and historical monuments in the territories they occupy. The synagogue is 50 metres away from Islam’s third holiest mosque.
