25 bonded labourers freed

MIRPURKHAS, Oct 14: Jam Nawaz Ali police recovered 25 bonded labourers belonging to Bheel community, including women and children, after a raid on the farmland of Thakur Nazeer Kaimkhani near Naoabad town of Sanghar district on Tuesday.

Reports reaching here said that police headed by SPO Abdul Wahid Khoso continued search for the remaining 119 bonded labourers.

Bheels held demonstration outside the press club consecutively on Sunday and Monday in protest against alleged atrocities by the landlord as Nandlal Bheel submitted an application through Kanji Rano Bheel, coordinator of HRCP core group, to DIG Mirpurkhas.

He stated in the application that around 144 Bheel people had been detained at Kaimkhani’s farmland for last couple of years and the landlord’s men forced them to do labour work. They were chained in the night and passed their life like animals, he said.

The DIG directed the DPO of Sanghar to take action against the landlord and on Tuesday evening heavy contingents of police recovered 25 bonded labours, including Shrimti Soomri, Hurmat, Premi, Mohan, Chetan, Ponjo, Shevlal, Preetam, Khemoon and others while search for the remaining 119 continued till the filing of this report.
